How to see deleted Telegram messages on Android

Updated 5 October 2026

The deleted message itself cannot be brought back. When someone deletes a message in Telegram, the app wipes it from the chat and from its own database on your phone, and Telegram removes it from its servers.

Android, unlike iPhone, sometimes keeps traces: notification history may still hold the text, and photos or videos may already be in your gallery. Below is where to look, in order, and why recovery apps and Telegram mods won't help with what is already gone.

Where to look right now

  1. Notification history. Android 11 and newer keep a log of the last 24 hours of notifications: Settings → Notifications → Notification history (on Samsung it is under Advanced settings). If the message arrived while the log was already on, its text may still be there even though it is gone from the chat — usually the first line only, without attachments. Turning the log on now will only record new notifications.
  2. The notification shade. If you never opened the notification, the text may still be visible in it. Don't tap it — that opens the chat where the message is already gone. Take a screenshot instead.
  3. Your gallery. If “Save to Gallery” is on in Telegram (Settings → Data and Storage), received photos and videos are copied to the phone, and deleting them in the chat does not touch that copy. Check the gallery's trash too — recently deleted pictures usually stay there for about 30 days.
  4. Another device that is offline. A tablet or computer with Telegram that is not connected right now may still show the message. Once it goes online, it disappears there as well — screenshot it first.

What won't help

What is offeredWhat actually happens
“Deleted message recovery” appsThey read notification history — the same thing you can open yourself. They only work if installed before the deletion, and see only the notification text.
Telegram mods that “show deleted messages”Unofficial clients can indeed keep messages on the device — but only ones that arrived while the mod was already installed. They can't bring back the past, and they are third-party code with full access to your account.
“We'll restore it from phone memory”Telegram deletes the message from its local database too. There is nothing left to restore — by design.
Services asking for your number and Telegram login codeThat is an account takeover attempt. No kind of recovery needs your login code.

About mods. An unofficial client gets the same session as the official app: every chat, your contacts, the ability to send messages as you. An APK downloaded from a random channel can send all of that anywhere. If you want to see deleted messages, there is a way that installs nothing on your phone.

How to see deleted messages from now on

The only built-in way is to connect a bot to your account through Telegram's chatbot section. It is in your profile: tap “Edit” and look at the bottom of the list for “Chatbots” (some versions say “Chat automation” or go through “Telegram for Business”). Since May 2026 the section is open to everyone — Telegram Premium is not needed.

The bot receives a copy of each message in the private chats you choose, at the moment it arrives. When the other person deletes or edits a message, the bot sends you what it said. Nothing is installed on the phone, and switching it off is one tap in the same settings. It only works going forward: what was deleted before you connected it cannot be returned by a bot or by anything else.

If you deleted it yourself

When you delete or clear a whole chat, Telegram shows an “Undo” button at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds — that is the only moment a deletion can be reversed. After that there is no trash, neither in the app nor with Telegram support. If a chat vanished and you didn't delete it, check the archive and your folders first — that is where it usually is.

Common questions

Can I see deleted Telegram messages on Android?

Not the message itself: Telegram deletes it from the phone and from its servers. The text sometimes survives in Android's notification history, if it was switched on before the message arrived, and photos in the gallery if Telegram's “Save to Gallery” is on.

Where is notification history on Android?

On Android 11 and newer: Settings → Notifications → Notification history. On Samsung: Settings → Notifications → Advanced settings → Notification history. It keeps about 24 hours and only from the moment it was enabled.

Do Telegram mods show deleted messages?

Only messages that arrive after the mod is installed. They cannot recover anything already deleted, and an unofficial client gets full access to your account, so installing one from an unknown source is risky.

Is there a safe way to see deleted Telegram messages in the future?

Yes — connect a bot through the chatbot section of your Telegram profile. It keeps copies of messages in the private chats you choose and sends you what was deleted or edited. Premium is not required.
