The Telegram bot that saves deleted messages
How it works, briefly. You connect the bot to your account through the "Chatbots" setting and tick which private chats it works in. From then on the bot receives copies of messages in those chats and keeps them. When the other person deletes or edits something, the bot sends you what it was.
It only works forwards: on what arrives after connecting. Recovering something already deleted is impossible — by this bot or anything else.
Where the access comes from, and why this is a legitimate mechanism
This is not a hack or a workaround. Telegram has a built-in way to connect a bot to a personal account — designed for auto-replies and customer service — and it lives in your profile settings.
Its properties are worth knowing up front, because they define both what is possible and what is not:
- You grant access chat by chat. The bot sees only the conversations you ticked. Not "all your messages" — a specific list you can change or clear at any time.
- Disconnecting is instant. Remove the bot in settings and the flow of copies stops immediately.
- Private chats only. The mechanism does not extend to groups, channels or comments at all.
- No Premium needed. The section used to be part of the paid subscription, but a Telegram update opened it to everyone. All you need is a reasonably recent version of the app on your phone.

A copy of what was there: text, photo, voice note, document — and who deleted it.
An edited message
Both versions side by side: what was written first and what it became.
A promise with a deadline
"I'll send it by Friday", "I'll pay tomorrow at 3pm" — the bot spots it and offers a reminder.
Setting it up
- Open your Telegram profile settings Profile → "Edit" → "Chatbots". In some versions the section sits under "Telegram Business" → "Chatbots".

The section exists in current Telegram versions on phones. Some desktop builds do not have it — open the settings in the mobile app.
What it costs

Without a subscription the bot still tells you about a deletion, and a single message can be opened on its own.
Payment goes through Telegram Stars — the bot never sees or stores banking details. Copies are kept for 90 days, then deleted automatically.
Limits worth knowing before you install
This is not the small print you read afterwards. Three things decide whether a bot like this suits you:
- Only from the moment you connect. History from before is not loaded — there is physically nowhere to take it from.
- Only the private chats you picked. No groups, no channels, and none of the chats you left unticked.
- Some things cannot be saved at all. Timed messages, view-once media, forward-protected content and secret chats are saved by no bot — Telegram protects them deliberately.
And an honest note on reliability: nobody can promise a hundred per cent. Telegram, the network or the server can delay an individual event, and then that particular message will not make it into the archive.
About privacy
There is a second person in the conversation, and their messages end up in the archive too. Worth saying plainly: the responsibility for keeping that conversation is yours.
On the service side: archive contents are encrypted with a separate key per user, attachments are stored encrypted, and the data is neither sold nor used to train models. You can export the archive with /export or delete it entirely with /delete_data, which also rotates the encryption key.
Common questions
Do I need Telegram Premium?
No. The "Chatbots" section is open to all users. You only need a recent version of the app on your phone.
Does the bot read all my chats?
Only the ones you ticked when connecting. The list can be changed or cleared in Telegram settings — you grant and revoke the access.
What happens if I disconnect it?
New messages stop being saved immediately. The archive already saved stays available to you until you delete it or its retention period ends.
Does it work on desktop?
The bot itself does. But you have to connect it from a phone: some desktop builds do not have the required settings section.
Can it recover my old conversations?
