Is AyuGram safe? What it does, the risks, and an alternative
AyuGram is an unofficial Telegram app (a “mod”) that keeps deleted and edited messages on your device. It works, but only for messages that arrive after you install it, and you have to log in to it with your own Telegram account — which gives that app full access to everything.
If what you want is to see what the other person deletes in private chats, there is a way without replacing your Telegram app: a bot connected through Telegram's own chatbot section. Below is how both work and how to choose.
What AyuGram is
AyuGram is a third-party Telegram client built by independent developers on top of Telegram's open-source code. It is available for Android and for computers, and it is distributed through its own Telegram channel and GitHub rather than through Google Play or the App Store. Its best-known features:
- keeps messages that were deleted, and earlier versions of edited ones;
- “ghost mode” — reading without sending read receipts or showing that you are online.
It does this the simple way: as a full Telegram app, it receives every message itself and just doesn't erase its local copy when Telegram says a message was deleted.
What it can't do
- Bring back the past. Messages deleted before you installed it are gone — no app can show them.
- Keep copies on your other devices. The copy lives only on the phone or computer where AyuGram runs. Your official Telegram app on another device shows nothing.
- Survive a reinstall. Clear the app's data or switch phones, and the saved copies are gone.
Is it safe?
There is no yes-or-no answer, but these are the facts to weigh:
- You log in to it with your number and code. Like any Telegram app, it gets the same access you have: all chats, contacts, the ability to send and delete messages, and to manage your account. You are trusting its developers and every update they ship.
- Telegram doesn't vouch for it. It is not an official app, and Telegram support won't help with problems caused by it.
- Fakes are the bigger risk. Look-alike builds from random sites and “AyuGram download” links in comments are a common way accounts get stolen. If you use it, get it only from its official source.
If you install it anyway, check Settings → Devices from time to time and end any session you don't recognise, and turn on two-step verification.
The alternative: a bot in Telegram's chatbot section
Since May 2026 every Telegram account, without Premium, can connect a bot in its profile settings (“Edit” → “Chatbots”, part of Telegram Business) and tick which private chats it may see. Telegram then delivers new messages from those chats to the bot, and tells it when one is deleted or edited — so the bot can send you the copy it saved.
- You keep using the official Telegram app; nothing to install.
- No login code is ever handed over — Telegram shows the connection screen itself, and you can disconnect in one tap.
- Copies arrive in your chat with the bot, so you see them on every device.
AyuGram or a bot: which fits
| AyuGram | Bot via Chatbots | |
|---|---|---|
| Private chats | Yes | Yes, the ones you tick |
| Groups and channels | Yes | No — Telegram doesn't deliver them to business bots |
| Messages from before you set it up | No | No |
| What you give it | Full login to your account | Read access to chosen chats; you can see the permissions |
| Works on iPhone | No App Store version | Yes, any device |
| Where copies are kept | On one device | On the bot's server, for a limited time |
If you need deleted messages in groups, a client like AyuGram is the only option — weigh the risks above. If private chats are enough, a bot avoids giving anyone your login.
Only for your own chats. Both options keep messages that people send to you, in chats you are part of. Neither is a way into someone else's account.
Common questions
Is AyuGram official?
No. It is a third-party Telegram client made by independent developers. Telegram doesn't distribute or support it.
Can AyuGram show messages deleted before I installed it?
No. It keeps only messages that arrived while it was installed. Nothing can show messages deleted earlier.
Is there AyuGram for iPhone?
There is no App Store version. On iPhone, the way to keep deleted messages is a bot connected through Telegram's chatbot section.
Can I get banned for using AyuGram?
Telegram allows third-party apps built on its API, but it doesn't vouch for them. The bigger practical risk is installing a fake build that steals the account.
