Telegram view once photos and videos: how they work and can they be saved

Updated 5 October 2026

A view once photo or video disappears after the recipient opens and closes it. It is Telegram's self-destruct timer for media in private chats: the file can't be forwarded, isn't saved to the gallery, and Telegram protects it against screenshots.

So the honest answer to “how do I save a view once photo” is: you can't, by design. Apps and bots that promise to save it either don't work or need access to your whole account — which is a bigger loss than one photo.

How to send a view once photo or video

  1. In a private chat, tap the attachment icon and choose a photo or video.
  2. Before sending, tap the timer icon on the preview (on some versions, long-press the send button).
  3. Pick View once — or a timer in seconds — and send.

The recipient sees a blurred preview with a fire or timer icon. Once they open it and close it, it's gone for both of you.

Can a view once photo be saved?

  • Download or save to gallery — no, Telegram doesn't offer it for self-destructing media.
  • Forward — no.
  • Screenshot — Telegram protects these photos: depending on the device, the screenshot comes out black or the sender is told that a screenshot was taken. Photographing the screen with another phone is the only thing no app can stop.
  • “View once saver” bots and mods — to see the photo, they need to be logged in to your account. That means handing a third party your whole Telegram: every chat, contact and the ability to write as you. Not worth one picture.

A note about our own bot. Zorge keeps copies of ordinary messages in the private chats you choose — text, photos, voice messages, files — so you can see what the other person later deleted or edited. It does not save view once or timed media, secret chats or content protected from forwarding. Telegram deliberately keeps those out of reach of every bot, and we think that's right.

If you sent a view once photo by mistake

As long as the recipient hasn't opened it, you can delete it for both: long-press → Delete → “Also delete for [name]”. After it has been opened, it is already gone on both sides.

What a bot can keep for you

If what you're actually worried about is people deleting ordinary messages and photos after sending them, that is something a bot can solve. A bot connected through Telegram's chatbot section (“Edit” → “Chatbots” in your profile; Premium not needed) saves the messages of the private chats you pick as they arrive, and shows you what was deleted or edited.

Common questions

Can you save a view once photo on Telegram?

No. View once photos and videos can't be downloaded, forwarded or saved to the gallery, and Telegram protects them against screenshots.

Does Telegram notify when you screenshot a view once photo?

Telegram protects view once media: depending on the device, the screenshot is blocked (it comes out black) or the sender gets a notice that a screenshot was taken.

What is the difference between view once and a 3-second timer?

View once disappears when the recipient closes it; a timer gives only the set number of seconds after opening. Neither can be forwarded or saved.

Are view once saver apps safe?

No. To see the media they need access to your Telegram account, which exposes all your chats and contacts and lets them act as you.

Can I send a view once photo in a group?

Self-destructing media is a private-chat feature; in groups the option isn't offered.
