Telegram “last seen recently”: what it means and how long it is
“Last seen recently” means the person hides their exact last seen time and was online within the last two or three days. Telegram shows an approximate range instead of the time, so nobody can track someone's schedule.
It does not mean you're blocked: blocked users always see “last seen a long time ago”.
The real time frames
| Status | When they were online |
|---|---|
| Last seen recently | Between a second and two or three days ago |
| Last seen within a week | Between two or three and seven days ago |
| Last seen within a month | Between six or seven days and a month ago |
| Last seen a long time ago | More than a month ago — or you are blocked |
The ranges come from Telegram's own FAQ. To tell “a long time ago” from a block, check the other signs: how to know if someone blocked you.
How to show “last seen recently” yourself
- Settings → Privacy and Security → Last Seen & Online.
- Choose “Nobody” or “My Contacts”.
- Add exceptions if you want specific people to always or never see your exact time.
The catch: once you hide your last seen, you stop seeing other people's exact times too — you'll only see “recently”, “within a week” and so on. It works both ways.
Last seen and Telegram Premium
With Telegram Premium you can see other people's exact last seen even while hiding yours. It still won't show the time of anyone who hid it from you specifically.
Can you see the exact time?
Not if they hid it from you. Bots and apps that promise to reveal someone's exact last seen either don't work or ask for your phone number and login code — they're after your account.
Status is visible, deletions aren't. Telegram shows when someone was online, but never tells you when they delete a message or the whole chat. A bot connected through Telegram's chatbot section (“Edit” → “Chatbots” in your profile; Premium not needed) saves messages in the private chats you choose as they arrive and sends you the ones the other person deletes.
