How to know if someone blocked you on Telegram
Telegram never notifies you about a block — but a combination of signs gives it away. Their status always shows “last seen a long time ago”, your messages stay at one check mark forever, calls don't go through, and their profile photo may disappear.
One sign alone proves nothing — each has an innocent explanation. Only several together point to a block.
Five signs you've been blocked
- “Last seen a long time ago.” Someone who blocked you always shows this to you — even while they are online.
- One check mark. Your messages are sent but stay at a single check: they are never delivered to them.
- No profile photo, or only an old one — you no longer see updates.
- Calls fail. The call drops right away or Telegram says you can't call this user.
- You can't add them to a group, and you don't see their stories.
Without messaging them: the status and the profile photo are the two signs you can check without sending anything.
Easy to confuse with
| What you see | Blocked | Hid last seen | Deleted account |
|---|---|---|---|
| Status | Always “a long time ago” | “Recently”, “within a week” or “within a month” | Name shows “Deleted Account” |
| Check marks | One, forever | Two once read | Can't message |
| Photo | Gone or old | Visible | None |
“Last seen recently” does not mean you're blocked — it means they hide their exact time. “A long time ago” can also be someone with a hidden status who hasn't been online for over a month. What “last seen recently” really means.
Blocked in a group or channel
If you were removed and banned from a group or channel, it disappears from your list and invite links stop working for you. For a public channel, open its link in a browser: you'll see the posts but won't be able to join.
What happens to the chat
A block deletes nothing — your whole history stays on your side. But the person who blocked you can also delete the chat for both, and then it disappears on your side too, with no notification. If someone deleted your chat.
If those conversations matter, the copy has to be made beforehand. A bot connected through Telegram's chatbot section (“Edit” → “Chatbots” in your profile; Premium not needed) saves messages in the private chats you choose as they arrive and sends you the ones the other person deletes.
About “block checkers”. Bots and sites that promise to tell you who blocked you ask for your phone number and login code. Telegram doesn't share that information with anyone — these services are after your account.
Common questions
How do you know if someone blocked you on Telegram?
By a combination of signs: their status is always “last seen a long time ago”, your messages stay at one check mark, calls fail and their profile photo disappears.
Does Telegram notify you when someone blocks you?
No. Telegram never tells anyone they have been blocked.
Does “last seen recently” mean I'm blocked?
No. “Recently” means they hide their exact last seen time. Blocked users always see “a long time ago”.
How do I tell a block from a deleted account?
A deleted account shows the name “Deleted Account” and can't be messaged. When you're blocked, the name stays and messages go out with one check mark.
Will our chat disappear if they block me?
Not because of the block. The chat only disappears if they also delete it for both.
